Lambton, July 15th, 2013 – A terrible tragedy shook the entire community of Lac-Mégantic, Saturday morning, July 6th, at around 1:15 a.m. This railway catastrophe has deeply scarred the people of this community and the surrounding region for many reasons: firstly, these being very close-knit families in a very close community, but also the magnitude and force of the destruction, the great number of missing ones, the haunting images that remain, the unprecedented world-wide media coverage, the successive visits of political leaders, and above all…the struggling to understand…Why and how such a terrible thing could happen?

An event of this nature instinctively makes us stop and think, and not just once, but constantly in the short time elapsed. We cannot forget, it keeps coming back with such intensity that again we pause and think of all those who have disappeared, and of all of those who remain.

Since the municipality of Lambton is situated only a few kilometers from Lac-Mégantic, its employees have also been deeply affected by this tragedy. One of our employees is among those who have disappeared, a close personal friend of another, while still others have been extremely shaken knowing how close they came to losing their own lives. Many are mourning the loss of a friend, a nephew, a cousin or a member of their family, all of whom were part of our daily lives in our community. It has created an immeasurable void.
